On December 23, 2022, a consortium made up of TEPCO Power Grid, Inc. (President & CEO: Yoshinori Kaneko), Pacific Consultants Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Osamu Omoto), Tokyo Electric Power Services Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Yasuhiro Kubo), Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Hiroaki Shinya), and Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (President & CEO: Kenji Yabuta) executed an agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) pertaining to a “Project for the Creation of an Integrated Energy Master Plan to Build a Carbon Neutral Society in Laos” (hereinafter referred to as, “the project”), and we hereby announce that full-scale activities pertaining to this agreement began on February 8.

The government of Laos is strengthening initiatives aimed at building a carbon neutral society that involve leveraging hydroelectric and renewable energies, promoting the use of electric vehicles, and utilizing biofuels as part of its Nationally Determined Contribution for achieving the objectives of “The 9th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025)” and accelerating climate change countermeasures.

Amidst this backdrop, the project seeks to leverage the abundant renewable energy resources in Laos and create a master plan for transitioning to long-term energy sources in order to build a carbon neutral society, as well as share its objectives with relevant agencies to foster coordination. In conjunction with these activities, the consortium will provide recommendations pertaining to policy, organizational structures and investment opportunities, and promote the execution of the master plan while also deliberating how we can contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in neighboring nations.

Each company participating in the consortium shall leverage its expertise in the fields of domestic/overseas power, energy conservation, hydroelectric power development and energy analysis, etc., to contribute to the promotion of carbon neutrality in Laos and its neighboring countries.
